What has been the role, impact and influence of sports medicine in and through the Paralympic Movement? This Steadward Talks will explore the past, present and future of sports medicine and the Paralympic Movement and will discuss the interaction and intersection of Olympic and Paralympic sports medicine particularly in Games time and given the united and unified organizing committee structure. The Steadward Talks are co-hosted by the International Federation of Adapted Physical Activity and Disability in Sport International. The talks are conversations with global leaders that examine the origins and future of inclusion in sport, focusing specifically on athletes with a disability. Stuart Willick is a sports medicine physician. Since 1999, he has been a team physician for the United States Ski and Snowboard Association, the US Speedskating Team and the US Bobsled and Skeleton Team. He also serves as Medical Officer of the International Paralympic Committee and has attended every Olympic/Paralympic Games since Sydney 2000. Cheri Blauwet is an Assistant Professor in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School and an attending physician at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. She serves as Director of the Kelley Adaptive Sports Research Institute. Dr. Blauwet is also a former Paralympic athlete in the sport of wheelchair racing, competing for the United States Team in three Paralypmic Games (Sydney '00, Athens '04, Beijing '08) and bringing home a total of seven Paralympic medals. She is also a two-time winner of both the Boston and New York City Marathons.Wayne Derman is Director and Chair of the Institute of Sport and Exercise Medicine at Stellenbosch University in South Africa. He is also Director of the FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence and Co-Director of the South African IOC Research Centre for Injury Prevention and Protection of Health of the Athlete.Chelsey Gotell is Chairperson of the IPC Athletes' Council. Gotell, is a 12-time Paralympic Games medallist in swimming over three Games from 2000 to 2008. Along with being part of Team Canada's mission staff at the London 2012, Sochi 2014 and Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, she worked in communications as well as sport and athlete relations with the Toronto 2015 Organizing Committee for the Pan/Parapan American Games. Professionally, Chelsea is an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner.
