We invite you to join us at our Celebration of African American Excellence on September 14th from 6pm to 9pm at the Center for African American History, Art and Culture. We will showcase our completed first floor and temporary exhibit, “Life, Hope and Bravery”, highlighting Aiken’s place in the Civil Rights Movement. Doors open at 6pm with exhibit viewing and refreshments until 7pm in the upper galleries. We will have art on display from local artisans and a silent auction throughout the night.
The formal program will begin immediately following in the Grand Room. Our keynote speaker is Victoria Smalls. Ms. Smalls is a public historian and educator, arts advocate, and cultural preservationist. She serves as a state commissioner with the South Carolina African American Heritage Commission and is the Director of Development and Public Relations at the Peen School National Historic Landmark District, known as Penn Center on St. Helena Island, SC. We will also celebrate some of Aiken’s finest, awarding the Dugas-Cole Award for Excellence.
